We pledge friendship and practical ongoing support.
We shall meet our family when they arrive, welcome them and be there for them as they settle into their new home, city and country.
Among the commitments we make as part of the CSS is to provide housing in Bristol for the family for the first two years after their arrival in the UK, and to provide other support such as ongoing contact and help, introduction to the appropriate local community resources, and access to schooling, language training, medical services and so on, for the first year.
They will be entitled to full access to services and benefits and also to suitable employment if available. After five years, if they wish they will be entitled to apply for permanent residence in the UK.
The Home Office application process for sponsor status requires that we show we can supply adequate housing suitably furnished by us and that we can show we have allocated at least £9000 for the first year’s expenses. Housing will be paid for from the local housing benefit plus any top-up from our own funds as required.
Given costs in Bristol our own target has been set for our purposes rather nearer to £18000 than the Home Office’s stipulated £9000.
We shall be our family's new friends in their new world. We do not actually know them yet, but we are even now waiting to be introduced. And we are looking forward to meeting them very much.
